SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis lost to UC Davis on Sunday afternoon at Degheri Tennis Center. The Aggies defeated the Broncos 4-3 in a match that was delayed twice for more than three hours due to rain and wet courts.
Singles matches were played first due to weather issues and each team won three courts. Senior Nabila Farah was the first finisher in singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jessi Lee on court three. Sophomore Madison Clarke earned her seventh straight singles win with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Lani-Rae Green on court two.
Senior Daniella Silva won on court one, 7-5, 6-3 over Kristy Jorgensen (UCD) in the final singles match to force doubles play as the match decider.
Farah and freshman Delaney Nothaft made quick work of Isabella von Ebbe and Kristina Breisacher on court two with a 6-1 victory. Silva and Clarke lost 6-3 on court one and then freshman Caitlyn Frankel and junior Zeina El Tawil lost a heartbreaker on court three, 7-6 (7-4), to decide the match and give UC Davis (7-2) the win.
Santa Clara (1-3) hits the road next weekend when its faces Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. PT.
