Battle in the Bay Classic Draws/Results

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis kicks off the 2017-18 season Friday with two players taking part in the Battle in the Bay Classic in San Francisco.

Zeina El Tawil and Katya Tabachnik will compete in the six-team, 16-player event that will be played at the California Tennis Club.

"Both Zeina and Katyas had a nice summer so they will be ready to play this early in the season," head coach Ben Cabell said. "This is a really fun tournament, lots of good competition so were really excited to see what they'll do."

Players from Fresno State, Pacific, San Jose State, USC and host San Francisco will join the Santa Clara in the three-day tournament.

El Tawil, heading into her final season, posted a team-best six singles wins last fall. She posted 14 singles wins and 10 in doubles on the year.

Tabachnik will be competing in her first collegiate match and will do so at her home club. She played at St. Ignatius College Prep.

"It's always good to play in the Bay Area and highlight Bay Area colleges," Cabell said.

El Tawil and Tabachnik will team up in doubles and face Alexa Corcoleotes and Madison Westby of USC at 9:45 a.m. Friday. Tabachnik will face Tamara Culibrk of San Jose State and El Tawil meets Margarita Treyes of San Francisco in the first round of singles. Both of those matches are set for 11:30 a.m. Friday.
