Cal Fall Invitational Draws/Results

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team picked up 18 singles and five doubles wins during the three-day Cal Fall Invitational that concluded on Sunday on the Hellman Tennis Complex and the Channing Tennis Courts.

"Overall I was really happy for our first tournament," said head coach Ben Cabell. "The players all competed well and did a good job considering we have not had a lot of time to practice. If we can continue to build off of what we did this weekend, they're going to be successful."

Two freshmen, Nadine Del Carmen and Katya Tabachnik had solid outings for SCU on the Cal campus.

Del Carmen won a total of four singles matches helping her advance to the finals of the third flight, before losing to Nevada's Melissa Hutchet 6-4, 6-1.

Tabachnik advanced to the quarterfinals in the second flight for singles before falling to Saint Mary's Vanessa Nommenson 6-4, 3-6, 5-7.

"Along with the two freshmen, Nadine and Katya, senior Zeina (El Tawil) also had a nice tournament even though she lost in the first round of the top flight. She played very well and won couple of the matches on the weekend," said Cabell.

Delaney Nothaft was the other Bronco with multiple singles wins with three en route to winning the white group singles consolation bracket.

In doubles play, the Tabachnik and El Tawil duo combined for two wins to lead the team.

The Broncos next play in the Saint Mary's Invitational from Friday to Sunday in Moraga, California.
