Women’s Tennis Wins 4-1 Over CSUN
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis earned its first win of the dual match season defeating CSUN 4-1 on a warm Sunday afternoon at Degheri Tennis Center.  The Broncos (1-2) reeled off four straight points in singles play after dropping the doubles point.

"CSUN is good at doubles and we didn't play our best.  We're going to keep working on doubles as it's a work in progress for us," said Broncos head coach Ben Cabell.  "I was really proud of the team on how they came out after the doubles and rebounded after losing the point."

In doubles, CSUN's Skyla Alcon and Arpe Bagumyan beat the Bronco pair of Elvena Gevargiz and Caitlyn Frankel, 6-3 on court three, following by Kiryang Kim and Mari Taslagyan's 6-3 win over Madison Clarke and Zeina El Tawil on court two to clinch the point for the Matadors (0-2).

The Broncos turned it around in singles play with wins by Gevargiz from the fifth position, followed by Maddie Pothoff at No.2, Nadine Del Carmen at No.6 and the match clincher by Madison Clarke at No.1.

For Gevargiz and Pothoff, it was their second singles wins over the weekend, winning their singles matches against 14th-ranked Cal on Saturday.

"Elvena had a nice weekend.  She was all business today and didn't allow the opponent to get into the match, beating her 6-1, 6-0.  It was really good to see a freshman anchor her spot down," said Cabell.  "As for Maddie, she is very professional and takes care of business.  She was under control and played a very smart match today."

The Broncos next play on the road against Fresno State on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m.
