Women’s Tennis Opens Conference Play At San Diego On Friday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis opens West Coast Conference play when it travels to San Diego to play the Toreros on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PT.

"The team and I have been happy with our performance overall.  Obviously, we would like to have a better record going into conference but the team is well prepared.  They've seen tough competition going into the weekend," said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell.   "San Diego is good and just looking at some of the matchups with who they've got, I think it's going to be a tough match."

The Broncos (2-5) are coming off a 5-2 loss against Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 25 with Maddie Pothoff and Elvena Gevargiz picking up singles wins for the Broncos on courts No.1 and 4.

"Our freshmen Katya Tabachnik and Elvena are playing well.  They're giving us wins and chances.  Maddie is really stepping up.  She won a great match at No. 1. on Sunday.  And Zeina (El Tawil) lost a tough match at No. 2 against Genevieve Zeidan that's ranked just outside the top-100.  It's the first time Zeina's played that high in the lineup and she was right there and almost pulled it off against a ranked player.  So we have a lot of positives to take away.  We have to have that going into conference this week," said Cabell.

The Toreros (3-4) will be well rested, having last played on Feb. 18, beating Cal Poly 4-0.
