Women’s Tennis Downed By Weber State, 4-2
OGDEN, UtahMaddie Pothoff, ITA's 102nd-ranked singles player, picked up two wins to give Santa Clara (7-8) a quick start against Weber State (9-8) but the Broncos lost four straight singles matches and fell, 4-2, in a non-conference match.
 
Pothoff and partner Madison Clarke won its doubles match against Pei Hsuan Kuo and Caitlin Herb, 6-2, on court No.1.  That was followed by Zeina El Tawil and Delaney Nothaft's doubles point clincher on court No. 3 over Morgan Dickason and Emily Tanner, 6-3.  
 
In singles play, Pothoff gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead when she won her match in straight sets against Herb, 6-1, 6-2, on court No. 2.  It was Pothoff's 11th singles win in the last 12 matches.
 
Playing on court No. 1, Madison Clarke won the first set of her match 7-5 over Kuo but had to retire in the second set, giving the point to the Wildcats.  
 
Weber State took care of business on courts No. 4 and 3 to go up 3-2 in the match before McKenna Lloyd defeated Nadine Del Carmen in three sets 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 to clinch the match. 
 
Santa Clara will resume its conference slate when it travels to Provo, Utah to take on BYU at 11 a.m. PT.
