Women’s Tennis Falls To Pacific In Midweek Tilt
STOCKTON, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis lost to Pacific, 4-2, in a midweek conference matchup at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.  The match was a make up for the rain-postponed contest from March 24.

The Broncos (7-10, 2-4 WCC) again had to adjust its lineup without Madison Clarke, who plays No. 1 singles and in the top doubles pairing.  Clarke was forced to retire from her singles match on April 6 and sat out the weekend match against BYU.

Despite missing its top player, Santa Clara managed to picked up a doubles point.  The freshman duo of Elvena Gevargiz and Katya Tabachnik moved up from its customary No. 2 slot to the top spot, blanking Maayan Sela and Dohee Lee, 6-0.

Maddie Pothoff, who typically pairs with Clarke, played with Caitlyn Frankel for just the second time this season, defeating Anneroos Nederstigt and Sabrina Rodriguez, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point for the Broncos.

After losing the first two singles matches to fall behind 2-1, Pothoff, who is ranked 124th in the latest ITA singles rankings, took care of Sela in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 1 to even the match at 2-2.

Pacific (6-9, 2-3 WCC) took a 3-2 lead when Lee beat Zeina El Tawil in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 on court No. 2

Looking to extend to the seventh point in the match, Santa Clara's Nadine Del Carmen was edged out in three sets by Sabrina Rodriguez 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 on court No. 6 which clinched the match for the Tigers.

The match on court No. 4 went unfinished with Bronco Katya Tabachnik and Tiger Anna Ramos Vinolas deadlocked 7-6, 5-7, 1-1.

Santa Clara has three matches remaining in the regular season, all home conference matches.  Next up for the Broncos is San Francisco on Saturday with the first serve at 11 a.m. PT.
