Women’s Tennis Rolls Past San Francisco on Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif.Zeina El Tawil and Elvena Gevargiz won in both singles and doubles to lead Santa Clara women's tennis to a convincing 4-0 home win over San Francisco on Saturday.

On court two, El Tawil defeated Anna Sokiran 6-3, 6-1 just before Gevargiz knocked off Mya Bui 6-2, 6-4 at the third position, giving the Broncos (8-10, 3-4) a commanding 3-0 lead in the West Coast Conference outing.

Giannina Ong was able to clinch the match by battling back from a set down on court No. 5. She picked up her first conference singles win of the season by downing San Francisco's Hanna Borjeson 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Santa Clara, which snapped a four-match skid, easily claimed the doubles point from the Dons (3-15, 1-6) who have dropped four in a row.

After El Tawil and Delaney Nothaft downed Borjeson and Margarita Treyes 6-1 on court No. 3, the top pairing of Gevargiz and Katya Tabachnik dispatched Bui and Emily Maxfield 6-2 to claim the first point of the match.

The Broncos have just two regular-season matches remaining, both at home. They play Loyola Marymount on Friday at 11 a.m. and face Pepperdine on Saturday at noon. Seniors Zeina El Tawil and Giannina Ong will be recognized prior to the tilt against the Waves.
