Women’s Tennis Downed In Conference Tournament
CLAREMONT, Calif. – Sixth-seed Santa Clara women's tennis was downed by third-seed Loyola Marymount 4-0 in the opening round of the West Coast Conference tournament on Thursday bringing an end to its season.

After missing last season's tournament, the Broncos made a return to the postseason but fell to the Lions for the second time in a week.

Santa Clara (8-13) faced LMU last weekend losing 4-2 at home without its number one player Madison Clarke.  With Clarke back in the lineup for the tournament, Santa Clara's hopes were high in upsetting LMU but the Lions asserted its dominance with a shutout win.

LMU (16-5) picked up the doubles point on wins by Siobhan Anderson and Anna Romeka over Elvena Gevargiz and Katya Tabachnik 6-2 on court two and Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek over Clarke and Maddie Pothoff 6-3 on court one.  The Miroshnichenko and Voracek duo are the No. 30 ranked doubles team in the nation.

Miroshnichenko who is also in the singles ranking at No. 45, beat Clarke 6-2, 6-0 on court one to earn the first Lions singles point.  Camila Tumosa beat Delaney Nothaft on court six, 6-3, 6-1 to put the Lions up 3-0.

The match clincher came on court two when Voracek defeated No. 116 Pothoff in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.

LMU will move on to the semifinals to play second-seed Gonzaga on Friday.
