Two Women’s Tennis Players Garner Academic All-WCC Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis players Zeina El Tawil and Giannina Ong have been named West Coast Conference All-Academic honorees for the 2017-18 season.  The conference made the announcement on Wednesday.  
 
To be recognized, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.  Also the student-athlete must have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution.  
 
El Tawil has a 3.344 GPA majoring in economics.  This is the first time the Cairo, Egypt, native was named to the conference All-Academic Team.  Last year, El Tawil garnered All-Academic Honorable Mention honors.  
 
Ong is a triple major carrying a 3.914 GPA.  Her majors are: English, Classical Studies, & Women's and Gender Studies. This is the first time Ong was named to the All-Academic Team after being named a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention last year.
