Women’s Tennis Duo Advances to Doubles Semifinals at SMC Fall Invite

Saint Mary's Fall Invite Draws/Results

MORAGA, Calif. – A pair of doubles wins by Maddie Pothoff and Caitlyn Frankel highlighted the opening day of the Saint Mary's Fall Invite on Friday which saw Santa Clara women's tennis capture a total of five wins.  
 
Playing in the A Draw, Pothoff and Frankel took care of Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp of Academy of Art, 8-5, in the opening round.  In the quarterfinals, the Bronco twosome beat San José State's Tamara Culibrk and Laura Malsert, 8-3 to advance to Saturday's semifinal match against Wisconsin's Anna Makarova and Melissa Pick.  First serve of the match is at 9 a.m. PT on Saturday. 
 
Nadine Del Carmen and Lindsey Pesqueira picked up the other doubles win for the Broncos in the B Draw deposing Sacramento State's Shamika Dhar and Frana Ugarkovic, 8-5, before falling to the No. 1 seed Chloe Goyette and Jordan Harris of Saint Mary's, 8-5, in the quarterfinals.  
 
Santa Clara's two singles wins came from freshmen Jamie Schroer and Pesqueira.  
 
Schroer beat Georgia Townsend of Pacific in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in the B Draw.  She will next play Carolina Chernyetsky of Sacramento State in the round of 16 on Saturday at Noon.  
 
Pesqueira needed three sets to defeat Sonoma State's Jennifer Kingsley, 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the C Draw.  Pesqueira will next play Ugarkovic, who she beat earlier in doubles, on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with a semifinal berth on the line.  
 
Day two of the SMC Fall Invite starts at 9 a.m. at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
