Two Doubles Teams Advance to Round of 16 at ITA Northwest Regional Championships

STANFORD, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis advanced two doubles teams to the round of 16 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Saturday.  The Broncos also picked up three singles wins in the consolation bracket at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the campus of Stanford.
 
Elvena Gevargiz and Katya Tabachnik made the round of 16 in the doubles main draw after beating UC Davis' Kristina Breisacher and Sara Tsukamoto, 8-4.  The Bronco sophomore duo will next play Cal's Olivia Hauger and Julia Rosenqvist on Sunday.  
 
They will be joined by junior Caitlyn Frankel and freshman Jamie Schroer who took care of San José State's Tamara Culibrk and Alba Pedrero Galindo, 8-6.  The Bronco twosome will play on Sunday and face another Cal doubles team in Anna Bright and Jasie Dunk.  
 
Gevargiz and Schroer also had an opportunity to advance to the round of 16 in the singles main draw, however, Gevargiz fell to Oregon's Shweta Sangwan, 6-2, 7-5, while Schroer lost to Stacey Fung of Washington, 6-4, 6-2.  
 
Santa Clara did manage to earn three singles victories in the consolation bracket from Tabachnik, Frankel and Nadine Del Carmen.  
 
Day three of the championships continues on Sunday with both Bronco doubles teams playing at 10 a.m. with an opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals.
