SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis concluded play at the Bronco Invitational with a 3-0 sweep in doubles and finished with a 5-4 overall record on Sunday.  Elvena Gevargiz and Jamie Schroer picked up wins in both doubles and singles play in the final day of the tournament to cap off a solid weekend.

"It was great to finish our fall season sweeping the doubles against San José State.  It was nice to have our number one doubles team with Madison Clarke and Maddie Pothoff back in the lineup as it made a big difference.  We set a goal at the beginning of doubles and they executed it well and we came out with three wins," said Broncos head coach Ben Cabell.

Clarke and Pothoff handily beat San José State's Miyo Kobayashi and Klara Milojkovic, 6-1.  Gevargiz teamed with Katya Tabachnik to pull out a close win over Tamara Culibrk and Laura Malsert, 7-6(2).  Schroer paired up with Caitlyn Frankel to take out Alba Pedrero Galindo and Mathilda Vidgren, 6-3, to earn their second doubles win of the weekend.

During the three-day tournament, the Broncos were 12-15 overall, going 6-3 in doubles and 6-12 in singles.  Gevargiz topped the team in wins with four and Schroer was tied for second along with Katya Tabachnik with three.

"Elvena had a really good performance all weekend.  She lost a tough three-setter in singles on Friday but bounced back to win both her matches over the weekend, all at number one," said Broncos head coach Ben Cabell.  "I'm really proud of her development.  She's done a great job improving her game and raising her level of play.  But the rest of the team did well.  Jamie Schroer had a nice win today at number two.  Everyone competed hard in the third and final day of the tournament."

On Sunday, Gevargiz defeated Nevada's Adriana Gergelyova in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, and Schroer took down Maria Tatarnikova, 6-2, 6-2.

The Broncos will open up its spring season at the Cal State Fullerton Spring Invite on Jan. 18.
