Women’s Tennis Sweeps Dominican, 7-0, in Dual Match Opener on Saturday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis dropped just 15 games en route to a 7-0 sweep over Dominican in the dual match season opener on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center.  
 
The Broncos (1-0) kicked things off blanking the Penguins (0-1), 6-0, in all three doubles matches.  
 
Maddie Pothoff and Elvena Gevargiz made quick work of Ofelia Lopez Camarena and Kaitlyn Nguyen on court one, followed by Katya Tabachnik and Caitlyn Frankel over Taylor Lim and Nicole Bermudez on court two to clinch the doubles point.  The freshman duo of Jamie Schroer and Lindsey Pesqueira closed out the doubles play taking care of Michelle Li and Alex Wartenberg.  
 
In singles play, Pothoff dropped just one game to beat Lim, 6-1, 6-0 on court one to give the Broncos a 2-0 advantage.  
 
Frankel put the Santa Clara up, 3-0, with a shutout win over Bermudez, 6-0, 6-0, on court five with the match clincher on court four when Tabachnik beat Wartenberg, 6-0, 6-3.  
 
Schroer and Pesqueira each picked up their first career dual match wins and along with Gevargiz, helped Broncos with a convincing sweep of the Penguins.  
 
Next up for the Broncos, a midweek matchup against Princeton at home on Tuesday.  First serve is at 1 p.m.  As with all home matches this season, it will be live streamed on www.SantaClaraBroncos.com/livetennis
