Women’s Tennis Opens Conference Play on the Road This Weekend
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis opens West Coast Conference play on the road at Portland on Friday and at Gonzaga on Sunday.

The Broncos (3-3) are coming off two dominating wins from the past week when it defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 4-0, followed by a 7-0 win over UC Davis, a team that the Broncos lost to last season.

"We've been talking about everybody playing as a team and that's what I was happy about," said Broncos head coach Ben Cabell about the weekend's results.  "Everybody was able to win their spot and that's great for us going into our first two conference matches.  I'm proud of Nadine Del Carmen as she's stepped up the last couple of matches at the number six spot."

Along with Del Carmen, Maddie Pothoff and Elvena Gevargiz bring their own win streak into the start of conference play.  Pothoff has won her last five singles matches on court one and Gevargiz has won four straight on court two.

In doubles, Pothoff and Gevargiz have teamed up at the number one spot to go 8-0 this dual season.

Portland (5-2) has won its last four matches.  Last season, the Broncos defeated the Pilots 4-3 at Degheri Tennis Center where then-freshman Katya Tabachnik defeated Emily Soares in three sets on court five.

Gonzaga (5-2) is coming off a 5-2 win over Washington State on Sunday.
