Women’s Tennis Falls to Hawaii, 6-1 on Thursday
HONOLULU – Santa Clara women's tennis dropped its match against Hawaii, 6-1 on Thursday evening at the University of Hawaii Tennis Center.  
 
Playing its second match in as many days on the Islands, the Broncos (4-9) pulled even with the Rainbow Wahine (4-9) at 1-all in the team score on Nadine Del Carmen's singles victory before Hawaii pulled away with five straight singles wins.  
 
Two of the matches went to three sets including the match clincher on court three when Nikola Dolakova beat Elvena Gevargiz, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.  
 
Santa Clara got off to a good start when the No. 1 doubles team of Gevargiz and Maddie Pothoff took down Petra Melounova and Dolakova, 6-3 to start the match.  However, Hawaii came back to win the doubles point with the doubles point clincher by Alzbeta Houbova and Maayan Sela over Jamie Schroer and Del Carmen, 6-3 on court three. 
 
Del Carmen leveled the match with her singles triumph over Roxanne Resma, 6-2, 6-2 before Hawaii won the next five including a three-set battle on court one to close out the evening. 
 
On court one, No. 100-ranked Melounova beat No. 86-ranked Pothoff, 6-7 (7-0), 7-5, 1-0 (13-11).  
 
NEXT UP
The Broncos return home to the Degheri Tennis Center to play its final homestand of the season against San Diego on April 5 and BYU on April 6 in a West Coast Conference battle.
