Women’s Tennis Takes Down BYU, 4-1 on Saturday
SANTA CLARA, Calif.Caitlyn Frankel had a hand in both clinching points for Santa Clara women's tennis against BYU on Saturday to help the Broncos pick up its first West Coast Conference win of the season.  
 
The Broncos (5-9, 1-4 WCC) beat the Cougars (10-7, 3-2 WCC), 4-1, as Frankel, Elvena Gevargiz and Maddie Pothoff each picked up two wins on the day.  
 
In doubles action, the Bronco junior played alongside Katya Tabachnik to defeat Polina Malykh and Madeline Almeida, 6-4 to earn the doubles point.
 
BYU leveled the match at 1-all in the team score when Samantha Smith beat Nadide Del Carmen, 6-3, 6-2 on court six before the Broncos reeled off three straight wins to claim the 4-1 team victory.  
 
Pothoff beat Kate Cusick, 6-2, 6-2 to get the ball rolling for the Broncos, followed by Gevargiz's 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Anastasia Abramyan on court two to set up the match clincher by Frankel. 
 
Playing on court five, Frankel took down Katie Fitt in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.  
 
NEXT UP
Santa Clara hosts San Diego on Sunday at 11 a.m. in a match that was postponed from last Friday due to rain.
