Women’s Tennis Lose to No. 38 San Diego, 4-2
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis lost to No. 38 San Diego, 4-2 on Sunday in the 2019 home finale with sophomores Elvena Gevargiz and Katya Tabachnik each earning singles wins for SCU.  
 
San Diego (14-2, 5-0 WCC) picked up the double point when matches on courts two and three ended simultaneously with the same score of 6-2.  On court two, Daniela Morales and Maria Tyrina beat the Bronco tandem of Katya Tabachnik and Caitlyn Frankel and on court three, Gemma Garcia and Sophia Chow downed Jamie Schroer and Nadine Del Carmen
 
In singles action, the wins by Gevargiz and Tabachnik evened the team score at 2-all but the Toreros pulled away with wins on courts one and six to clinch the match.  
 
Gevargiz took down Morales, 6-4, 6-2 and Tabachnik won over Maria-Paula Torres, 6-4, 6-4 for Santa Clara's (5-10, 1-5 WCC) two poins of the afternoon. 
 
The matches on courts one and six went to a first set tiebreaker which went in favor of the Toreros.  On court one, No. 58-ranked Solymar Colling beat No. 110 Maddie Pothoff, 7-6 (10-8), 6-0 and on court six, Sophia Chow defeated Nadine Del Carmen, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
