SAN FRANCISCO – Katya Tabachnik, Caitlyn Frankel and Maddie Pothoff each picked up two wins to help Santa Clara women's tennis beat San Francisco, 4-2, in a West Coast Conference tilt on Saturday.
Tabachnik, a San Francisco native, clinched the match beating Margarita Treyes in three-sets, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-0 on court four in her homecoming.
Earlier in the match, Tabachnik paired with Frankel on court two to take down Rita Colyer and Shanna Dos Santos, 6-4 to clinch the doubles point after the two squads split the first two doubles matches.
In singles action, Emily Maxfield beat Elvena Gevargiz, 6-4, 6-1 on court two to even the team score at 1-all.
However, Santa Clara (6-10, 2-5 WCC) pulled ahead 3-1 behind wins by Maddie Pothoff over Mya Bui, 6-3, 6-3 on court one, followed by Frankel's triumph over Colyer, 6-2, 6-4 on court five.
Dos Santos brought San Francisco (8-11, 1-6 WCC) to within a point beating Nadine Carmen in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 but Tabachnik shut the door with her match clincher.
