LOS ANGELES – Santa Clara women's tennis got off to a good start picking up the doubles point but lost four straight singles matches and fell to LMU, 4-1 on Thursday in a West Coast Conference match.
The Santa Clara (6-11, 2-6 WCC) number one doubles tandem of Maddie Pothoff and Elvena Gevargiz took down No. 80 Eva Marie Voracek and Vero Miroshnichenko, 6-3 to clinch the doubles point to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead in the team score. The win came on the heels of a Broncos win on court two.
On court two, Caitlyn Frankel and Katya Tabachnik beat Siobhan Anderson and Lillian Gabrielson, 6-3.
Trailing 1-0, LMU (10-8, 4-4 WCC) reeled off four straight singles wins on courts one, two, four and five with the match clincher by Yesica De Lucas over Frankel, 6-3, 6-4.
The Lions won all four singles matches in straight sets.
