Women’s Tennis Kicks Off Spring Season with Four Doubles and Three Singles Wins

FULLERTON, Calif.Caitlyn Frankel and Lindsey Pesqueira each picked up two victories as Santa Clara women's tennis opened the spring season with four doubles and three singles wins at the Cal State Fullerton Invite on Friday.  
 
The Broncos opened the day winning three doubles matches against San José State and one against Grand Canyon in the hidden dual match format tournament where the individual records count but not the team results.  
 
Against the Spartans, Frankel played alongside Jamie Schroer to take down Alba Pedrero Galindo and Lara Marco Mas, 6-3.  Madison Clarke and Maddie Pothoff blanked Tamara Culibrk and Rozalina Youseva, 6-0.  Elvena Gevargiz and Katya Tabachnik made it a clean sweep, beating Savannah Sendar and Tess Menten, 6-4.  
 
Pesqueira paired with Giulia Hayer, playing her first collegiate match after enrolling this month, to beat Grand Canyon's doubles team, 7-5, to help the Broncos go 4-0 in the doubles matches.
 
In the afternoon singles play, Santa Clara took three of the nine matches with wins by Frankel, Pesqueira and Lindsay Lynch.
 
Frankel defeated Cal State Fullerton's Taylor Valenzuela 6-1, 6-2.  Pesqueira needed three sets to depose Pacific's Danielle Zamora 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).  Lynch came back to beat Pacific's Georgia Townsend 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).
 
The second day of the CSUF Invite continues on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
