Women’s Tennis Set to Host Cal Poly and Nevada in Dual Match Opener

UPDATE (7:45 p.m. PT, Friday, Jan. 31, 2020) - First serve for Sunday's match against Nevada is now at 10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Coming off a strong performance at the Cal State Fullerton Invite two weekends ago, Santa Clara women's tennis hosts Cal Poly in the spring dual match opener on Friday and Nevada on Sunday at the Degheri Tennis Center.  Friday's first serve is at 1 p.m. and Sunday is at 11 a.m.

"This is what we practice for, this is the fun part," said Broncos head coach Ben Cabell.  "This team has been together for quite awhile so there's a lot of experience on the court which we are excited about.  We just want to see what we can do."

Last time out on the courts, Santa Clara (0-0) racked up 21 total wins in doubles and singles play during the three-day CSUF Invite playing against four other teams in the hidden dual match format tournament.

"Since we last played, we've been trying to get the team physically and mentally ready to compete.  We've had a couple of weeks of good practice," said Cabell.

Friday's match will be the second dual match of the season for Cal Poly (1-0) who won 5-2 at Fresno State last week in their spring opener.

"Cal Poly has much improved over the last couple of years.  We are expecting a difficult match," said Cabell.

Nevada (2-1) will enter Sunday's contest against the Broncos with four matches under its belt.  The Wolf Pack will play Cal Poly on Saturday in a neutral site contest at Degheri Tennis Center.

"We haven't seen Nevada much recently but in the past but we always seemed to have close matches with them so we are expecting a tight match as well," Cabell added.
