Volleyball Hires Dustin Moore as Assistant Coach

Aug. 7, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University volleyball head coach Jon Wallace announced the hiring of Dustin Moore as the second assistant coach of the team. Moore will share in all responsibilities of the program and will concentrate on scouting the team's opponents.

With the hiring of top assistant coach Katy Eldridge last week, Wallace's coaching staff is now complete.

Although Moore enters his first season as an assistant coach, he is not new to the program, serving as a volunteer assistant on Annie Feller's staff in 1997 and '98. He has maintained ties to the Mission campus by continuing to coach the program's summer camps.

"Dustin has very high energy and motivation and will make the girls work extremely hard," Wallace said. "He has been involved with the Bronco program for four years and so he knows where this program started and where we're taking it to, and he's very excited about that.

"In addition," Wallace continued, "with his high school and club coaching experience, he has a good understanding of our local talent for recruiting purposes and in helping our freshmen class make that high school-to-college transition."

Moore joins Santa Clara from Woodside Priory High School in Portola Valley, where he was the head coach for the girl's and boy's varsity volleyball squads this past year. While with Woodside Priory, his girl's team won the CIF Division V California State Championship.

Moore began his coaching career at his alma mater, Menlo College, where he was an assistant for the Division III team in 1994 before becoming the head coach for the 1995 and '96 seasons. Moore than turned to club tams and coached City Beach Volleyball Club for four seasons before moving to the South Bay Boys Volleyball Club in 1999, where he stayed for two years.

"I'm very excited to be returning to Santa Clara," Moore said. "I've been a part of the program for a few years and I'm looking forward to seeing the girls again. It will be a comfortable fit. This program is heading in the right direction."

The Broncos return two starters from last year's team that finished the season ranked 17th with the program's best season record ever, 27-5. Leading the way will be WCC Freshman of the Year Becky Potter and All-WCC Performer Jami Bari. The Santa Clara volleyball team begins the 2001 season August 31 against South Carolina at the Phoenix Airport Hilton/Sun Devil Challenge in Tempe, Ariz.
