TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior co-captain Jami Bari and freshman middle blocker Toni Muratore posted 17 kills each as 22nd-ranked Santa Clara defeated host Arizona State in four games at the 12th Annual Phoenix Airport Hilton/Sun Devil Challenge this evening at the Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores were 31-29, 30-20, 22-30, 30-24.

Earlier in the day, the Broncos defeated Hofstra 30-13, 30-26, 30-19 and are now 2-0 on the year.

Sophomore outside hitter Becky Potter was also an offensive force, adding 12 kills. She and Bari posted their first double-doubles of the year, adding 14 and 20 digs, respectively. Sophomore Chrissy Hirsch added 13 digs for the Broncos.

Arizona State was led by Jami Coughlin and Julie Leddy, who combined for 37 kills on the night.

Earlier in the day, it was Muratore and Bari leading the way, each with 14-kill performances. The Broncos were led defensively by senior co-captain Merrin Thompson's 13 digs.

Hofstra, led by Stefanie Rewitz's 10 kills, was outhit .357 to .133.

With 109 assists in two games, Santa Clara sophomore setter Kelli Sousa is leading the tournament with a 15.57 per-game average.

The Broncos conclude play at the tournament against 23rd-ranked South Carolina tomorrow at 1 p.m. followed by Nevada at 5 p.m.
