Volleyball Signs Two Letters of Intent

Nov. 15, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University volleyball head coach Jon Wallace announced the signing of two outside hitters to National Letters of Intent. Menlo Park's Cassie Perret and Kimberly McGiven of Encinitas, will be part of the Bronco class of 2006.

Perret, a 6-1 outside hitter from Woodside Priory School, is a talented, physical hitter that will be a power player for the Broncos. She also plays club for City Beach. She led Woodside Priory to the Division 5 State Championship in 2000 where she earned Finals MVP honors. She is a two-time league MVP and earned the League Sportsmanship Award during her junior year.

"Cassie is a very powerful and explosive athlete that will come in and give us the power we need to compete against the top 10 teams in the country," Wallace said.

McGiven, a 6-0 outside hitter from the San Dieguito Academy, will bring size and athleticism to the team. She played club for Sunwest. She earned All-CIF honors during the 1999 and 2000 seasons in addition to earning second team All-North County in 2000. She was the MVP of the San Dieguito varsity team and was the MVP of the 2000 Maidson Tournament. The Union Tribune and the North County Times both honored her as the Athlete of the Week during 1999 and 2000 seasons, respectively.

"Kim is another explosive athlete that jumps well, is fast, and is dynamic... all the things we're looking for in our athletes," Wallace said. "I think she has a real high ceiling in volleyball."

The Broncos will close conference action at San Francisco next Saturday, Nov. 17. That contest will begin at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Gym.
