Oct. 3, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University junior middle blocker Becky Potter was named the West Coast Conference women's volleyball Player of the Month Thursday after leading the 15th-ranked Broncos to an 11-2 record.

During the month of September, Potter posted 4.67 kills per game while hitting at a .322 clip for the month. She also registered 2.64 digs per game with just under one block per contest. She was named WCC Player of the Week twice and earned four all-tournament selections including the Tournament MVP honors at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament hosted by Northern Arizona and at the Marriott Sunset Showcase hosted by UC Irvine.

Potter led the Broncos to a 6-0 start to begin the season, tying the 1979 team for the program's best-ever start. Since that start, Santa Clara has steadily moved up in the rankings. Currently at No. 15, they are one spot away from their highest-ever ranking which came during the 2000 season when the Broncos finished the year with a 25-3 record.

Heading into the WCC opener this weekend against San Diego on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Leavey Center, Santa Clara is 11-2 with their only losses coming to No. 4 Nebraska and then No. 8 Minnesota who is currently No. 5 in the country.
