No. 14 Volleyball Sweeps San Francisco

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The 14th-ranked Santa Clara University volleyball team took only 1 hour and 17 minutes to dispose of the University of San Francisco Friday night in the Leavey Center, winning the West Coast Conference match 3-0 to improve to 17-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

Junior Kelli Sousa directed the Bronco offense that hit .372 on the night as she posted 44 assists in the three games. She also registered a match-high 17 digs on the night to go with four kills on six attempts with only one error for a .500 hitting percentage.

Freshman Alyssa Lantz and junior Becky Potter each posted 16 kills on the night, with senior Cindy Hirsch recording 10 digs to round out the Broncos in double-digits. Potter also added four block assists and one solo block on the night while sophomore Megan Johnston added four total blocks and nine kills in the win.

Santa Clara limited USF (4-19, 0-7 WCC) to a .067 hitting percentage which came on 32 kills, 24 erros and 120 attempts. Brittanie Budinger led the Dons on the night with 12 kills, while Kristina Bognar and Caroline Skacel each had 10 digs to lead the San Francisco defense.

The win marked the quickest match this season for the Broncos who are now 10-2 in three-game matches this season and 5-1 in the Leavey Center. Santa Clara will return to action on Tuesday as they host non-conference opponent Sacramento State at 7 p.m. in the Leavey Center.
