SCU Volleyball Signs Alex Scoffone To NLI

April 27, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara Volleyball head coach Jon Wallace today announced the signing of local Central Coast Section and Lincoln High School standout Alex Scoffone to a national letter-of-intent. Scoffone, a San Jose native and three-time all-league selection for the Lincoln Lions, will provide immediate depth to the middle blocker position for the Broncos.

"We are thrilled to have Alex join our program, her all-around athleticism and competitiveness are just a few of the strong qualities she will bring to the team," Wallace said. "We look forward to her coming in and competing for a starting middle position as a freshman."

Scoffone, a 6-2 middle blocker, brings a sparkling all-around athletic pedigree to the Mission Campus. A three-year varsity starter on the Lincoln volleyball team, she immediately helped lead the Lions to a Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division crown, earning the league MVP award as the Lions captured the crown with a 15-3 overall record, and a perfect 12-0 mark in league play. Scoffone followed that up with a BVAL All-Santa Teresa Division First Team effort in 2005-06, and this past season led the Lions to the Santa Teresa division title, once again being named the league MVP as the Lions went 18-10 (11-3).

Her talents were not limited to the volleyball court, as Scoffone was also a standout four-year starter on the Lincoln varsity women's basketball team. After earning second-team honors as a freshman, and first-team honors as a sophomore, she was named the West Valley Division's Junior of the Year in 2005-06. In 2006-07, Scoffone earned league MVP honors for the third time in her career, and the first time for basketball, leading the Lions to the West Valley division crown and a 12-2 mark in league play.
