Nov. 6, 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara volleyball redshirt senior Anna Cmaylo earned her first academic honor as she was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District VIII third team it was announced Thursday. Cmaylo owns a 3.42 grade-point average as a political science major.

The Napa, Calif., native made her triumphed return to the court this season after missing the 2007 campaign as she recovered from shoulder surgery. The two-time All-American has compiled a tremendous senior campaign as she leads the Broncos with a 39.5 hitting percentage and 1.13 blocking average. Her hitting percentage ranks 19th overall in the nation. On Oct. 16, Cmaylo broke the school record for career block assists and has a current tally of 381. For her efforts on the court this season, she's been named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week twice and currently leads the league in blocking.

Off the court, Cmaylo serves as president of Santa Clara's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is actively involved with community service efforts. Last season, despite not being on the court, she helped her fellow Broncos raise over $3,000 for "Dig For The Cure," a national fundraiser benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
