Volleyball Tops Central Conn. State 3-0 In First Match Of The Day

With Taylor Milton leading the Broncos with 13 kills, Santa Clara made fast work of Central Connecticut State in its first match at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Mass.  The Broncos move to 5-0 with Central Connecticut State falling to 0-4.  Set scores were 25-14, 25-15 and 25-13.

Santa Clara will play host-Harvard in its season-opening match at 4 pm later on Friday.

"Our team is playing with great focus and determination," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  "We are playing a fun brand of volleyball - our girls are really enjoying playing Bronco volleyball."

Santa Clara hit .444 with 44 kills (8 e, 81 att.).  The Broncos had 41 assists, five aces, eight service errors, 27 digs and six team blocks.

Milton hit .550 in the match with her 13 kills (2 e, 20 att.).  She added two aces and three block assists.  Nikki Hess hit .533 with nine kills (1 e, 15 att.) and four digs.  Lacey Maas hit .556 with six kills (1 e, 9 att.) and three block assists. Kirsten Mead collected 35 assists.  Danielle Rottman led the team with eight digs, scoring two aces, and Katy Schatzman added seven digs.

CCSU hit .137 with 25 kills (15 e, 73 att.).  The Blue Devils had 23 assists, one ace, three service errors, 20 digs and four team blocks.

They were led by Makenna Lommori, who collected seven kills, 10 assists and three digs. She is the younger sister of former Bronco Kayla Lommori '13.  Ashley Lenington led the team with 10 assists and Rachel Fish had a team-high eight digs.

Santa Clara hit .520 in the first set with 15 kills (2 e, 25 att.); the Broncos hit .500 in set two with 16 kills (3 e, 26 att.) and .333 with 13 kills in the final set (3 e, 30 att.).

CCSU hit .167 in the first set with 8 kills (4 e, 254att.); the Blue Devils hit .217 in set two with 10 kills (5 e, 23 att.) and .038 with 7 kills in the final set (6 e, 26 att.).
