Volleyball Falls at San Francisco In WCC-Opener

Santa Clara opened its 2014 West Coast Conference season at San Francisco and fell 3-0. Set scores were 25-22, 25-15 and 25-19.  Santa Clara is 10-4 and 0-1 in the WCC and USF is 8-4 and 1-0 in the WCC.

The Broncos host Pacific in their 2014 WCC home opener on Tues., Sept. 30 at 6 pm.

Santa Clara hit .115 with 37 kills (23 e, 122 att.). The Broncos collected 31 assists, no aces, six service errrors, 43 digs and 7.0 team blocks.

Nikki Hess led the team with 11 kills and Sabrina Clayton had 10 kills.  Kirsten Mead had 25 assists.  Danielle Rottman 16 digs.  Natasha Calkins led the team with five block assists.

Santa Clara hit .278 with 16 kills in the first set (6 e, 36 att.). The Broncos hit .070 with 11 kills in the second set (8 e, 43 att.).  In the final set, the Broncos hit .023 with 10 kills (9 e, 43 att.).

USF hit .243 with 40 kills (14 e, 107 att.). The Dons collected 37 assists, three service aces, three service errors, 53 digs and 12.0 team blocks.

USF hit .333 with 16 kills in the first set (4 e, 36 att.).  USF hit .400 in the second set with 14 kills (2 e, 30 att.).  In the final set USF hit .049 with 10 kills (8 e, 41 att.).

Katarina Pilepic hit .400 with 13 kills (3 e, 25 att.).  Katarina Zaloznik hit .600 with nine kills (0 e, 15 att.) and four digs.  Kiara McKibben had 23 digs and Vlasic had 11 digs.  Kim Gutierrez had 11 digs, and Jessica Gaffney and Sara Staengle had 10 digs each.
