Volleyball Wins 20th Match Of The Season At Portland

Winning its fourth straight match, the Santa Clara volleyball team won 3-0 at Portland on Saturday afternoon, collecting its 20th victory of the season. Set scores were 25-16, 25-11 and 25-14.  Santa Clara is 20-7 and 10-4 in the WCC and Portland falls to 6-18 and 1-12 in the WCC.

The Broncos return home to host their final four matches of the season, beginning with LMU on Thurs., Nov. 13 at 6 pm.

"We were really dialed in today," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  "I am so proud of our effort and know everyone is looking forward to coming home for our final four matches of the regular season."

Santa Clara hit .327 with 45 kills (12 e, 101 att.). The Broncos collected 45 assists, 11 aces, three service errrors, 45 digs and 7.0 team blocks. The 11 aces were just one off their season-best performance of 12 in their 3-0 win vs. No. 11 BYU last Thursday.  The Broncos entered the week at No. 4 nationally in service aces.

Nikki Hess led the Broncos with 13 kills, hitting .206 (6 e, 34 att.), adding four aces and five digs. Sabrina Clayton hit .474 with 10 kills (1 e, 19 att.), collecting two aces and four digs.  Taylor Milton had 10 kills as well, hitting .429 (1 e, 21 att.), scoring four aces and 13 digs. Lacey Maas added six kills, hitting .455 (1 e, 11 att.).

Kirsten Mead had 38 assists, two aces and two kills.  Danielle Rottman added 16 digs and three assists.

Santa Clara hit .265 with 13 kills in the first set (4 e, 34 att.). The Broncos hit .429 with 17 kills in the second set (2 e, 35 att.).  In the final set, the Broncos hit .281 with 15 kills (6 e, 32 att.).

Portland hit .080 with 21 kills (14 e, 87 att.). The Pilots collected 22 assists, three aces, one service errror, 36 digs and 3.0 team blocks. Portland hit .077 with 7 kills in the first set (5 e, 36 att.).  Portland hit .118 in the second set with 8 kills (4 e, 34 att.).  In the final set, Portland hit .037 with 6 kills (5 e, 27 att.).

Makayla Lindburg and Katie Sullivan led the Pilots with five kills each.  Djurdjina Milovic had 10 assists and Ali Koumelis added eight assists and nine digs.
