Katrina Inch On Spring, Summer, And Season

Katrina Inch On Spring, Summer, And Season

Written by Mary Shepherd '17

Sophomore Katrina Inch (KI) chatted with Santa Clara Broncos (SCB) about her spring season goals, summer plans, and excitement for what next year holds for the Santa Clara Women's Volleyball team.

SCB: Last season many of your teammates started calling you "Inch" as a nickname for Katrina. How did this nickname stick?

KI: Everyone was trying to figure out another name to call me because "Katrina" was just too many syllables to spit out on the court. I think Jon was the first person to use my last name, "Inch", to address me - and it just stuck! I'm so used to it now, it almost catches me off guard a little when people call me by my first name!

SCB: What have you been working on in practice for the past three weeks?

KI: I have been really focused on defensive eye work and getting the right information from what I see. I have also been working on some technical aspects of my hitting.

SCB: What are you looking forward to most about next year?

KI: I am really excited to play at Texas, as it should be a fun, energetic environment. Also, I can't wait to go against BYU after their successful run last year in the NCAA tournament. Our team has what it takes to go all the way the year.

SCB: What is it going to take for the team to win the WCC this fall?

KI: I think the most important factor is for everyone to have a strong mental game through great preparation, which will allow us to execute at a very high level. If we can master this skill, we will be really hard to beat.

SCB: How are you going to stay in shape over the summer?

KI: I am going to really focus on Sparta over the summer, and push the intensity on every workout so that I can come back even faster and stronger in the fall. I will be living in Santa Clara over the summer, and will be able to practice with the other girls who will be around.
