Volleyball Leads WCC with Six All-Academic Selections

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara volleyball has continued to demonstrate its achievement on the court and in the classroom by leading the West Coast Conference in all-academic selections for the third straight time. The Broncos had six players recognized overall, announced by the conference Tuesday morning.

Hailey Lindberg and Kirsten Mead received All-Academic Team honors, while Jensen Cunningham, Katrina Inch, Mary Shepherd and Tatiana San Juan were each named an Honorable Mention.

The Broncos led the conference with six all-academic honorees in the 2015 indoor season, and took home six more accolades during the first NCAA season of beach volleyball last spring.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each conference-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.

Mead, a junior studying Business Economics, is on the All-Academic Team for the second straight season. She is averaging 9.5 assists/set and has 126 digs on the season.

Lindberg, a sophomore studying in the Leavey School of Business, is hitting .298 with 218 kills on the year, and ranks third on the team with 92 total blocks.

Shepherd is an Honorable Mention for the third straight season, while Inch earned her second straight award in that category. Cunningham and San Juan both in their second season with the Broncos, and thus eligible to receive academic honors for the first time.

The Broncos play their 30th and final match of the 2016 season Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Saint Mary's in Leavey Center.
