Jensen Cunningham Named West Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Jensen Cunningham made the most of her final regular season home contests on the Mission campus and helped Santa Clara volleyball extend its season-long winning streak to six matches last week. The senior middle blocker hit .411 with 31 kills (3.44 kills/set), five digs and 12 total blocks (three block solos, nine block assists) as Santa Clara completed the season sweep of Pepperdine in four sets on Thursday and downed Loyola Marymount in five sets on Saturday. She was recognized by the West Coast Conference as its Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday.

The Scottsdale, Arizona native led the team in kills for both of their victories. She notched 13 kills on .385 hitting against the Waves while adding five digs and three total blocks. Cunningham combined with fellow senior Kirsten Mead on a block to finish off the opening stanza on Thursday night and came through with the match-clinching kill in the fourth set.

Cunningham's 18 kills against the Lions were her third-most in a match this season. She hit .433 on senior day and stonewalled Loyola Marymount at the net with nine total blocks (two block solos, seven block assists). Trailing 14-13 in the fifth set, the Broncos turned to Cunningham, who delivered with a kill to stave off match point. She combined with Mead on a block to end the next rally and put the Broncos in front en route to the win in the team's home finale. The match marked Cunningham's 19th contest of the season with double-digit kills.

Santa Clara begins a three-match road trip to end the season on Thursday night at No. 11 San Diego.
