SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Fresh off an NCAA championship, Erin Lindsey has been named head volleyball coach at Santa Clara University.

Lindsey spent the last two seasons as an assistant with Stanford which won its eighth NCAA title last weekend.

She becomes the 10th head coach for a program that dates back to 1963 and enters her second stint as a head coach after leading Dartmouth from 2011 to 2015.

"We are thrilled to have Erin and her family join Santa Clara Athletics. She's had tremendous success as a Division I student-athlete and coach," Santa Clara director of athletics Renee Baumgartner said. "Erin has great passion for volleyball and has shown the ability to recruit and develop student-athletes at the highest level. She knows what it takes to build a championship program."

A former standout player at the University of North Carolina, Lindsey worked with setters and the offense during her time at Stanford, which for the past two seasons produced five first- and second-team All-Americans, including two-time TeamSnap/AVCA Division I National Player of the Year Kathryn Plummer. During her first year, Lindsey helped guide the team to a Pac-12 title and an appearance in the national semifinals.

"I am just so grateful for the opportunity," Lindsey said. "When I came on campus and heard Renee's vision and spoke to the rest of the administration and other coaches about the excitement and energy building behind Santa Clara athletics I just felt like it was such an awesome opportunity.  It's very clear how committed the University is to the volleyball program and so as a coach that's just a dream."

The Honolulu, Hawaii native, began her coaching career at her alma mater where in five years she helped develop three AVCA All-Americans and seven All-ACC players, including the 2005 ACC Player of the Year.  She helped UNC to a share of the league regular-season title twice while also serving as recruiting coordinator.

Despite her success at Stanford, Lindsey was ready to become a head coach again. 

"It's hard to leave such a storied program and I'm really grateful for my time at Stanford but I just felt like the opportunity here and the way everyone was talking about the future of Bronco volleyball really made me excited to get back into head coaching and to work with these young women," Lindsey said.

Lindsey led Dartmouth its most Ivy League wins in program history in 2015 and the Big Green earned their highest league finish since 1998 that season. Lindsey was named the 2015 league co-coach of the year, a first for the school. She coached 10 all-conference players, four Academic all-league student-athletes, and two CoSIDA Academic All-District selections.. Lindsey was named the 2015 league co-coach of the year, a first for the school.  

In 2016, Lindsey served as an assistant at the University of Illinois. 

A four-year starter and two-time captain at North Carolina from 1995 to 2000, the star setter for the Tar Heels earned All-ACC honors and AVCA All-Region accolades twice, as well as being named the 1998 ACC Player of the Year.

A 2000 graduate, Lindsey is the school's all-time leader in career assists and was named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary Team as one of the greatest players in conference history.
