Volleyball Sweeps Past Gonzaga

SANTA CLARA, Calif.Julia Sangiacomo (11) and Allison Kantor combined for 21 kills for Santa Clara volleyball, which held Gonzaga to a .050 attack percentage on the way to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 victory in Thursday's West Coast Conference match.

Taylor Odom had six kills and Alexa Dreyer five for the Broncos (13-7, 3-4) who hit .283 and won for the fourth straight time at home.

Sarah Penner and Payton Mack each had five kills for the Bulldogs (6-12, 0-7) who dropped their 12th-consecutive outing.

Sangiacomo had 11 digs to record her second double-double of the season.

Each set was a battle with the Broncos unable to gain much separation.

The third set alone had 10 ties and eight lead changes with Santa Clara using a 5-1 run to build a 15-11 lead with Michelle Shaffer and Sangiacomo on serve. Gonzaga was able to pull within three points, five more times, but the Broncos closed it out with Shaffer on serve for the final four points.

Shaffer had a solid all-around game, posting 18 assists, eight digs, four kills and three aces.

The second set was tied five times early before the Broncos took control. An ace by Shaffer, her second of the set, built a 14-9 lead, but Gonzaga scored the next four. Sangiacomo then answered with a pair of kills and Santa Clara scored five of the last six points of the set with Shaffer getting a pair of kills.

Sangiacomo and Kantor each had four kills in the opening set when the Broncos hit a match-best .314.

The Broncos are home again on Saturday facing Portland at noon.

NOTES
• The Broncos now lead the all-time series 51-14. The previous four matches in the series went to five sets.
Julia Sangiacomo recorded her second-career double-double. The freshman had 17 kills and 12 digs at Air Force (Sept. 21, 2019).
Taylor Odom had five block assists, the 10th time this season she has posted at least that many.
• Sangiacomo (11) had her 13th match of the season with 10 or more kills. Allison Kantor (10) has double-digit kills in 12 outings.

PARKING

For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot (see below for access), located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to first serve. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive. During the weekend, campus parking facilities are free (except for permit required locations). Click here for a campus map and parking restrictions. The construction of the Stephen C. and Patricia A. Schott Athletic Excellence Center has necessitated the closure of the main entrance (off Accolti Way) to the Leavey Center parking lot. Access is now ONLY directly from El Camino Real (Route 82). If you are traveling east on El Camino Real, the Leavey lot entrance will be approximately 150 yards on the right (enter through the black iron gate) after you pass the main campus entrance. If you are traveling west on El Camino, make a u-turn at the main campus entrance at Palm Drive/Railroad Ave and follow the same directions.
