Three Volleyball Players Named to WCC All-Academic Team; Five Recognized Overall

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Santa Clara volleyball has matched a program record in West Coast Conference All-Academic Team selections. Alexa Dreyer, Allison Kantor and Michelle Shaffer were named to the conference's all-academic team Wednesday, while Liliana Light and Gretchen Reinert received honorable mention accolades.

This season marks the third time in program history and first time since 2005 that three Broncos landed a spot on the all-academic team.

Dreyer, who is working toward a Master of Business Administration, totaled 159 kills and was second on the team with a .311 hitting percentage. Kantor (marketing) was second on the Broncos with 337 kills (2.98/set) and 10 double-doubles. Shaffer (undeclared business) played in all 33 matches and led all WCC players with 50 aces while posting a team-high 13 double-doubles.

Light (biology) played as a setter and right side for 23 matches before suffering a season-ending injury; she helped set the Broncos to better than .300 hitting six times. Reinert (communication), who earned her second straight honorable mention award, stepped in as starting libero this season and was the only Bronco to play in all 33 matches and all 124 sets. She ranked 4th in the conference with 451 digs (3.65/set).

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each conference-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team. Click here for the official WCC release.
