# KSU Challenge (at Kennesaw State); All times Pacific

NOTES

  • The Broncos head into week three of the season after splitting a pair of matches at last weekend's Aggie Invitational at UC Davis. Santa Clara swept Nevada on Friday but fell the host Aggies, 3-1, the following day. Alex Anthony and Sophia Tulino were named to the all-tournament team. Tulino averaged 10.5 kills and 5.5 digs in the two matches and Anthony was a presence at the net with 6.0 total blocks in the two outings.
  • The KSU Challenge features five games over a three-day span beginning on Thursday when host Kennesaw State plays South Carolina. The Broncos will not face the Owls in the event. Kennesaw State, which plays in the Atlantic Sun, has reached the NCAAs in two of the previous four seasons.
  • Julia Sangiacomo (3.81), Michelle Shaffer (3.39) and Tulino (3.17) are each averaging at least 3.0 kills per set.
  • Shaffer was named to the Oregon Invitational All-Tournament Team for her performance over three matches on opening weekend. She led the Broncos with 40 kills (3.64/set) and had at least 11 kills in all three contests.
  • Sangiacomo, a preseason All-WCC selection, led the Broncos with 4.22 kills/set on opening weekend and her 19 kills against Portland State were the most by a Bronco in any of the three matches.
  • Kat Georgiadis set a career-high mark with 18 digs in the season-opening match against San José State, then bested that mark with 26 digs against Portland State. She leads the West Coast Conference with 55 digs and 5.0 digs/set.
  • Anna Stucchi, Nive Tuileta and Grace Wee made their Santa Clara debuts against San José State.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Santa Clara and South Carolina split their two all-time meetings. The Gamecocks won 3-0 on Sept. 1, 2001, in the Sun Devil Challenge (Tempe, Ariz.). The Broncos were victorious 3-2 on Sept. 17, 2003, in the Gamecock Tournament.
  • The Broncos will be facing Clemson for the first time.
  • Santa Clara won the lone meeting with Auburn, knocking off the Tigers, 3-1, on Sept. 3, 2016, in the Active Ankle Challenge (Louisville, Ky.)
