The Fifth Annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer will take place on the Santa Clara University campus on Sat., May 11 at 8:30 am. It's a 5K walk that will start and end at the campus library, across from Benson.

While most teams are preparing for fall volleyball season, this freshman from Santa Barbara, Calif. is in the midst of playing the squad’s newest obsession, beach volleyball. During the past fall season, Rottman played in 48 sets and earned 33 digs, and three blocks. Coming Off 14th NCAA Tournament, Santa Clara Volleyball Adds Six+ Sand Volleyball Dates to Indoor Spring Schedule
Santa Clara volleyball, fresh off its 14th NCAA appearance in 2012, has hit the ground running this winter and is looking forward to both its indoor spring schedule and the sand volleyball schedule as well. After playing in an informal sand tournament last year in Malibu, Santa Clara will add at least six dates of sand volleyball during the months of March-April with the schedule to be released later.
In addition to their training schedule and competition dates, Santa Clara’s volleyball team will host the Fifth Annual Walk For Pancreatic Cancer on Sat., May 11, 2013 at 8 am on the Mission campus (more details to come so mark your calendar today!). The team has raised more than $90,000 over the past five years for cancer research.

She also spoke to Megan Anders of the volleyball team who was named All-WCC First Team after leading her team to the school's 14th NCAA tournament. Broncos Fall To No. 8 Hawaii In NCAA First Round
Playing in the school’s 14th NCAA tournament, Santa Clara fell in the first round 3-0 to No. 8 Hawaii. Hawaii, who ran through its conference undefeated this year with an 18-0 record, advances to Saturday night’s second round to play the winner of the No. 5 Washington – Central Arkansas being played later Friday.

Volleyball's Anders Named First Team All-WCC, Milton Tabbed As Honorable Mention All-WCC
Leading Santa Clara to the school’s 14th NCAA tournament, junior middle blocker Megan Anders was named to the West Coast Conference First Team on Monday. It is the 15th straight season the Santa Clara volleyball team has placed at least one player on the West Coast Conference First Team. In addition, sophomore Taylor Milton was named to the All-WCC Honorable Mention team.
Last week Kayla Lommori was named to the 12-member All-Academic Team with two others being named Honorable Mention: junior Katherine Douglas and sophomore Katy Schatzman.

Volleyball Receives 14th NCAA Tournament Bid; To Play No. 8 Hawaii in Seattle on Friday
The Broncos volleyball team can’t wait to take the practice court this afternoon at 3 pm. The Santa Clara volleyball team received the school’s 14th NCAA tournament bid on Sunday and will be play No. 8 Hawaii on Fri., Nov. 30. The Broncos are 20-11 this season and Hawaii, who plays out of the Big West Conference, is 25-2. The winner will advance to the play the winner of No. 5 Washington (23-6) vs. Central Arkansas (30-4) game on Sat., Dec. 1.

Volleyball Drops Final Regular Season Match at Saint Mary's
Finishing off the regular season, Santa Clara dropped a 3-0 match at Saint Mary’s on Saturday. Set scores were 14-25, 18-25 and 13-25. Santa Clara finishes the regular season at 20-11 and 9-8 in the WCC. Saint Mary’s is 17-10 and 12-4 in the WCC. Santa Clara will now wait until next Sunday (Nov. 25) to see if it receives an at-large NCAA tournament berth.

Volleyball Hosts Senior Night Thursday vs. LMU; Watch Video With Coach Wallace, Lexi and Kayla!
Santa Clara hosts LMU for its Senior Night on Thurs., Nov. 15 at 6 pm before travelling to Saint Mary’s for its final regular season match of the year on Sat., Nov. 17 at 1 pm. The Broncos will say goodbye to seniors Lexi Williamson and Kayla Lommori, both four-year starters.

After defeating No. 14 BYU at home on Oct. 20, BYU returned the favor on Saturday when No. 14 the Cougars defeated Santa Clara 3-0. Set scores were 9-25, 19-25 and 20-25. Santa Clara won its 20th match of the year on Thursday night with a 3-2 win over USF. Santa Clara is 9-3 in five set matches this year, including 4-1 in West Coast Conference play. SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara volleyball team impressively beat No. 18 Pepperdine University on September 29th. Junior setter Alyssa Anderson (AA) helped the team with 28 assists and 13 digs.
As the team readies to host No. 16 BYU, Anderson leads the team with 6.39 apg and is tied for the team lead with 0.33 sapg. She also collects 2.00 dpg. Recently, www.SantaClaraBroncos.com had the chance to talk to Anderson about the team’s goals, her responsibilities on the team and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

In what Bronco head coach Jon Wallace termed as "a total team effort", Santa Clara defeated No. 18 Pepperdine 3-1 on Saturday at the Leavey Center. Set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-17. It is Santa Clara's first volleyball win over a top 20 team since the Broncos defeated No. 13 Kansas State 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Dec. 5, 2008.

Volleyball Defeats Host Cal State Fullerton In Five; Open WCC Play Thursday vs. Gonzaga
Going five sets seems to be the way to win for the Broncos. Winning its fifth five set match in seven tries this season, the Santa Clara volleyball team came back after being down 2-1 to defeat host-Cal State Fullerton in its final match of the Fullerton Classic on Saturday afternoon. Playing its fourth match in 24 hours, including a 3-2 win over San Diego State on Friday, the Broncos defeated the Titans 11-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-23 and 15-9. Santa Clara moves to 10-4 and Cal State Fullerton, who plays its second match tonight, is 6-6.

Beginning the second season of The Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap (BWSW) as part of the EYEBRONCO Network, with Santa Clara senior water polo player John Nash and senior women's soccer player Lauren Matheson serving as co-shots, Bronco Athletics announced Wednesday that sophomore men's basketball Denzel Johnson will join the Bronco Weekly Sports Wrap this season as its newest co-host. Playing its third five-set match in just 24 hours, Santa Clara outlasted host-UC Davis Saturday morning and won its sixth match in seven tries to start the 2012 season. Santa Clara Volleyball's Schmidt Named Top 30 for NCAA Woman of the Year Award; Top 9 To Be Named In Mid-September
Assuming that the "extremely urgent" UPS express envelope delivered to her house was for her parents, when she looked at the package more closely Tanya Schmidt was surprised to see her own name as the recipient. She opened the envelope slowly, careful not to make any unnecessary rips to the package. As she read the letter on official NCAA paper, a huge smile appeared on her face. Santa Clara's Tanya Schmidt had been named one of the Top 30 nominees for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The Top 30 were selected from a list of almost 430 university nominees that had been paired down to 133 conference nominees in early August. Ten nominees from each NCAA division are represented in the Top 30, and on the list, Schmidt is one of just two Division I volleyball players. Click here for the release on the Top 30 list.

West Coast Conference Nominates Bronco Volleyball's Schmidt For NCAA Woman of the Year
Graduating senior Tanya Schmidt '12 has another feather to add to her cap as she has been named as one of the West Coast Conference nominees for the 22nd annual Woman of the Year Award. Schmidt was named the West Coast Conference Post-Graduate Scholarship winner in June after being awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in March. Schmidt is one of two women nominated by the WCC for the award.

Bronco Volleyball Names Former All-American Aaron Mansfield As An Assistant Coach
With great pride and excitement, Bronco head coach Jon Wallace announced Monday that he has hired Aaron Mansfield as an assistant coach for the Santa Clara volleyball team. The Sunnyvale, Calif. native, who will start immediately, comes to Santa Clara after working for three of the last five years at UC Santa Barbara with the men’s volleyball program. The grand total this year is in and it’s pretty amazing! The Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer, hosted on the Mission Campus on May 12, 2012 in cooperation the Bronco volleyball team, raised more than $32,000 this year! The Bronco volleyball team has worked with Arlene Mariani and UCSF to raise almost $85,000 in donations as part of the Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer in the past four years!

Bronco Volleyball Student-Athletes Compete in Iron Bronco
Each year during spring quarter, students hit the gym, the pavement, and the pool, more than ever to participate in the annual Iron Bronco. This event is a spinoff of the well-known Iron Man, a triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mi swim, 112 mi bike ride, and 26.2 mi run. Santa Clara students, as well as staff, are able to compete on their own or in groups of 3 over the two weeks. This year, a number of Bronco volleyball players decided to test out the race and compete together. Bronco Volleyball Competes In Sand Volleyball Tournament in Malibu
Another first for Bronco Athletics! The Santa Clara volleyball team travelled down to Malibu last weekend to compete in its first-ever sand volleyball tournament with Pepperdine and UC Santa Barbara. Trade Your Bronco Colors for Green As We Celebrate Earth Day In Many Ways!
Santa Clara University Athletics and Recreation are gearing up for the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day, Sun., April 22 with a number of active participants, including the Malley Center on the SCU campus. Just in time, the Malley Center's weight room is becoming a lot greener. Ali Rambis Ready to Get Back on the Court
Ali Rambis (AR) played in 35 sets this fall and recorded service aces in four different matches, but she was sidelined for a large part of the season with an elbow injury. The rising junior is preparing to make her return in the fall as she trains with the Broncos throughout the spring. Bronco volleyball’s rising junior Megan Anders discovered a way to combine her love for sports and sustainability when she landed the position of Sustainability Intern, Athletics and Recreation on the Mission Campus. Volleyball's Schmidt Awarded NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship
Santa Clara University senior volleyball player Tanya Schmidt was one of 29 female student-athletes awarded a prestigious one-time, nonrenewable $7,500 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship this week. Schmidt was named twice to the All-WCC team during her Bronco career, including first team in 2010. She was also named three times to the WCC All-Academic Team and twice to the Capital One Academic All-District All-American team. The team captain last fall, Schmidt was also named one of 30 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award this past fall.

Former National Team Player Matt Lyles Returns As An Assistant Coach with Santa Clara Volleyball

Five Volleyball Players Honored by the WCC, including First Team Member Dana Knudsen
For the 14th straight season the Santa Clara volleyball team has placed at least one player on the West Coast Conference First Team and this year’s entry is junior Dana Knudsen. In addition, senior Schmidt posted the highest GPA of the 12-member All-Academic Team with three others being named Honorable Mention: juniors Kayla Lommori, Alexandra Palmer and Kaleigh Durket.

Santa Clara ends the 2011 season at 11-16 and 6-10. Saint Mary’s ends its season at 16-12 and 10-6 in the WCC. Schmidt wasn’t at Senior Day because she was in San Francisco interviewing for the Rhodes Scholar.

Tanya Schmidt Interviews for Rhodes Scholarship
Tanya Schmidt will miss Senior Day tomorrow, Sat., Nov. 19, vs. rival Saint Mary’s, not due to an injury or a cold floating around campus but rather, because she will be interviewing for a Rhodes Scholarship to study at the University of Oxford. She will be one of 15 interviewing in San Francisco for two coveted spots. If selected, she will begin at Oxford next fall. Other finalists in her district attend colleges at Harvard, Cornell, MIT, Brown, Georgetown, Stanford and Cal-Berkeley, to name a few.

Schmidt Named to CoSIDA All-District Academic Team; Only WCC Player to Make List Last Two Years
Senior middle blocker Tanya Schmidt, who carries a 3.971 grade point average, was named Friday to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. She is the only West Coast Conference Player on the First Team and the only volleyball player from the WCC to be recognized the past two years on the All-District team. Her name will now be forwarded to the Academic All-American national committee.

Knudsen Collects WCC Player Of the Week For Third Time in Her Career
Hitting .545 this past weekend, Bronco junior Dana Knudsen was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week in the first week of play. Knudsen, who was selected over seven other WCC players, led Santa Clara to a 2-1 record and was named to the All-Tournament team at the Seattle University Fall Volley. Tanya Schmidt was also named to the All-Tournament team. It is the third straight year Knudsen has received WCC Player of the Week honors early in the season.

Douglas, Knudsen Shine in Win over Eastern Washington
Playing its third match in 24 hours to start the season, Santa Clara defeated Eastern Washington 3-0 Saturday. The Broncos won 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18. Earlier in the day Eastern Washington defeated Washington State in five sets. Santa Clara finishes the tournament at 2-1 and heads to Utah Valley State next weekend for three matches.

Volleyball Led by All-WCC Middles in 3-0 Win Over Seattle
Crushing the ball and hitting .720 in the third set, Santa Clara defeated tournament host Seattle tonight 3-0. The Broncos won 25-15, 28-26 and 25-14. Santa Clara, 1-1, plays Eastern Washington tomorrow at 1 pm to finish out its play in the Emerald City.

On Eve of Bronco Volleyball Kicking Off Season Schmidt Named as Candidate for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award
On the eve of Santa Clara’s first 2011 volleyball match in Seattle, senior Tanya Schmidt was named as a candidate for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Schmidt, one of just two from the WCC on the list, is a returning All-WCC First Team Middle Blocker for the Broncos who also excels in the classroom, sporting a 3.97 GPA as she enters her final season - one of the highest GPAs among the candidates. Douglas Returns to the Court
Almost one year after suffering a season-ending injury, Katherine Douglas (KD) is back in her hard-hitting form. During her freshman year, Douglas took on the appearance of a veteran, recording 281 kills and 252 digs in 29 matches. As a red-shirt sophomore, Douglas, who spent part of her summer competing in Beijing, is prepared to suit up as a Bronco and take to the court once again. SCU Places Record Number on 10th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll
With the conclusion of the 2010-11 academic year, the West Coast Conference is proud to announce the 10th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes those student-athletes that possess at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. A record number 122 Bronco student-athletes made the list, besting last year's mark of 118. Santa Clara had 21 on the Gold list, 21 on the Silver list and 80 on the Bronze list. Santa Clara's student-athletes recorded a school-best 3.14 GPA during the Spring 2011 quarter as well.

Volleyball hosts Cal Poly Saturday and Pancreatic Cancer Walk!
Santa Clara finishes its spring season of competition on Sat., May 7 when it hosts Cal Poly at 10 am in the Leavey Center. The match is free and open to the public. Prior to hosting Cal Poly, the Santa Clara volleyball team will help host the third annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer Walk on the Mission Campus. Registration for the walk begins at 7:30 am and walk-ups are welcome and encouraged! The walk begins at the Leavey Center at 8:30 am. The volleyball team has raised over $55,000 in the last three years for cancer research and support.

Please join Santa Clara Bronco Athletics to walk in the Third annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer. The walk has generated $66,000 in the last three years. All proceeds go to UCSF Pancreas Cancer Research.

Santa Clara lost in three at No. 18 San Diego on Thursday night as USD stayed undefeated in WCC play with an 11-0 record. Game scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-8. The Broncos played without starter Kayla Lommori who is second on the team with 3.16 kpg. Lommori suffered an ankle sprain while warming up and is expected to be out the rest of the season.

Knudsen Named WCC Player of the Week
Santa Clara sophomore middle blocker Dana Knudsen, a 6-3 native of Elk Grove, Calif., was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. She hit a combined .527 last weekend as the Broncos posted a 2-1 record at the Santa Clara Invitational.

Santa Clara, 6-3, travels to the Midwest this week to play four matches, including three as part of the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. After this weekend, the Broncos will have played 10 of its first 13 matches on the road.

Opening the 2010 home volleyball season at the Leavey Center, Santa Clara won in three sets vs. Portland State this morning. Game scores were 25-12, 25-20 and 25-13. Santa Clara is 5-2 and Portland State is 3-5. Santa Clara will continue play later this evening when it hosts CSU Northridge at 7 pm in the Leavey Center.

Santa Claras volleyball team, 4-2, hosts its first three home matches of the season this weekend at the Leavey Center, starting off with Portland State at 11 am on Fri., Sept. 10. It will follow up with a match vs. CSU Northridge at 7 pm on Friday night and conclude play for the weekend with an 11 am match on Sat., Sept. 11 vs. CSU Bakersfield.

Playing in the final match of Pacifics Bankers Classic, Santa Clara, playing its third match in four nights, fell 3-2 at Pacific on Saturday night. Since the Bankers Classic's inception in 1979, Pacific has won 17 of the tournament's 32 championships. Game scores were 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25 and 9-15.

Santa Clara posted a 2-0 record on Saturday in its final day of play at the Fresno State Classic with a 3-1 win over host-Fresno State and a 3-2 come-from-behind win over UC-Riverside. Santa Clara is 2-1 on the young season and plays at Sacramento State on Wed., Sept. 1 before playing Idaho and Pacific in Stockton next weekend.

Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer Raises Almost $30,000!
Helping raise almost $30,000 for cancer research (as of May 22), the Santa Clara volleyball team hosted the fourth annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer on the Mission Campus on May 12. The Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer has raised more than $83,000 since its start in 2009 with all proceeds being donated to the UCSF Foundation.

Santa Clara returns home to host three of its last four matches this season. Santa Clara will host Gonzaga on Thurs., Nov. 10 at 6 pm and then Portland on Sat., Nov. 12 at 1 pm. It will travel to San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 17 for a 6 pm match before returning home for Senior Day, its final match of the season, vs. Saint Maryâs at 1 pm Sat., Nov. 19.
