SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Bronco women's water polo team has announced its 2014 schedule and roster welcoming 10 new freshmen to the list. The Broncos, who went 6-3 in league play last season, finished – in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) standings, joins a new conference this year, the Golden Coast Conference (GCC)

"The team is excited about the new conference," said Santa Clara head water polo coach Keith Wilbur. "It's a stronger conference so it is going to be more competitive. San Diego State is usually a top-10 team, LMU who move over from the WWPA with us is a very good team and UOP and Cal Baptist are very good programs. Our focus is on winning conference which would be a very big step for us especially with these teams."

The team will report for preseason training on Mon., Jan. 6th, to prepare for their season opener on Thurs., Jan. 30 at 5:00 p.m. vs. Hawaii. The Broncos will face a number of opponents in their opening weekend including Michigan, old conference foe Cal State Monterey Bay and new conference foe Fresno Pacific.

Along with the 10 incoming freshmen, the Broncos welcome back sophomore Julia Peters who was named to the 2013 First-Team WWPA All-Conference, senior Claire Eadington who picked up 2013 Honorable Mention All-Conference honors and senior Kaitlin Murphy who was named team captain this year.

"We have a lot of returners coming back which is good for our team chemistry," continued Wilbur. "We had a limited amount of practice time in the fall but we had a couple of games and scrimmages which was enough to see how the new group will play together and I thought we they played pretty well. I like the mix of players we have and it's a good group."
