Elizabeth Anderson Looks to Build on Stellar Freshman Season

Elizabeth Anderson Looks to Build on Stellar Freshman Season

Written by Calisa Reis '14

As a freshman, Elizabeth Anderson (EA) came in and set the bar high for herself going forward. After starting all 33 matches and making the 2013 WWPA All-Freshman Team, Anderson is looking to improve every game and lead her team to be the first ever winners of The Golden Coast Conference.

SCU: As a freshman that came in and started all 33 matches, how have you been preparing for your sophomore season?

EA: I have been coming to practice every day and giving it my all. One of my first coaches always reiterated, "you practice like you play", and that is a great mindset for raising the level of intensity that I like to maintain. I like to leave it all in the pool, and feel as though I have done everything possible to improve every single day. Conditioning is also a large part of preseason and I really wanted to amp it up and come into our first couple of games in the best shape possible.

SCU: Having just experienced your freshman season, how have you used that to help the freshman this year?

EA: It is great to be back with a year of collegiate play under my belt. It gets rid of a lot of nerves that I had going into the first couple of games last season. The level of physicality you see in college is always a shock, and this year I feel very ready and am excited for it.

SCU: What are some of the team's goals for the new season?

EA: Being the first ever winners of The Golden Coast Conference is our number one goal. We have a great opportunity to set the precedent in this new conference, and with this team, I truly believe that it is attainable.

SCU: Having made the 2013 WWPA All-Freshman Team, what are some personal goals you are striving for this year?

EA: Personally, I want to improve every single game. Each game is great experience, to better develop my skills, conditioning and physicality. I want to capitalize on those opportunities to be the best player that I can be!
