No. 16 Broncos Fall to No. 2 Stanford

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The No. 16 Broncos went up against tough competition in No. 2 Stanford at their "green" game at the Sullivan Aquatic Center. The Broncos fell 14-6, making them 3-5 overall.

The Cardinal jumped out to a two-goal lead to start the game. Erin Sheridan was able to break the silence and put the first goal in for the Broncos. The Cardinal put in another goal but Elizabeth Anderson answered right back, Cardinal advantage, 4-2. Anderson earned a penalty shot, which was taken and scored by Laura Burtness to bring the Broncos within one. In the final seconds, the Cardinal earned an exclusion and converted their opportunity to make the game 5-3.

Anderson started off the second period with another earned penalty shot. Sheridan took the penalty shot and converted to bring the Broncos within one, 5-4. The Cardinal took over the rest of the quarter, going on a three goal run to make it 8-4.

The Cardinal continued their run into the third quarter, making their advantage 9-4. Anderson earned an exclusion, which lead to a quick goal to break the Cardinal run, 9-5. June Afshar came up with some major saves in the cage, but the Cardinal offense kept their momentum going scoring two more goals to make their advantage 11-5.

Sydni Estrella took over in goal for the Broncos to start the fourth quarter. The Cardinal went on a three-goal run. The Broncos earned an ejection and Claire Eadigton covered to end the game on a high note for the Broncos. The game ended 14-6, Cardinal with the win.
