No.16 Broncos Fall To Two Top-Ranked Teams

SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The No. 16 Broncos faced another tough weekend of competition, facing No. 12 San Jose State and No. 4 Cal in the same afternoon. The Broncos fell to both teams giving them a 3-7 record this season.

The Broncos travled to UC Davis for the Aggie Shootout on Feb. 15 where they faced San Jose State. The Spartans started off the game strong, going up three goals. Claire Eadington scored the first Bronco goals in the final seconds of the game to make it 3-1, Spartan advantage.

In a man-up opportunity, Laura Burtness was able to convert for an SCU goal. The Spartans continued to go on a four-goal run, making their advantage 8-2 at half.

Julia Peters broke the silence for the Broncos and found the back of the net to start the third quarter. Peters continued to battle and scored another goal to make the game 9-4. After earning two ejections, the Spartans increased their lead to 11-4.

The SJSU run continued into the fourth until Burtness was able to get one past the Spartan defense to make the game 13-5. The Spartans went on to score two more goals and they left the pool with the win 15-5.

The Broncos then moved on to take on top ranked Cal at their home pool. The Cal defense dominated, keeping the Broncos scoreless until half. The Bears went on a nine-goal, unanswered run through the half.

Ashleigh Bandimere put in the first goal for the Broncos to start the third quarter. Elizabeth Anderson, Burtness and Peters followed suit and put up goals to make the gam 11-4. The Bears scored two more goals and closed out the third quarter 13-4.

Anderson scored her second goal of the game and Elle Surber scored her first goal of the game in the fourth quarter. The game ended 17-6, Cal with the win.

The Broncos will now have a two-week break before hosting Concordia and No. 14 UC Davis on March 1. Be sure to come out and support your Broncos!
