Broncos Finish Fourth In GCC Conference Tournament

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After picking up a 10-8 victory vs. No. 7 seed Azusa Pacific on day one of the Golden Coast Conference Championship, the No. 3 seed Broncos dropped their next two games to No. 2 seed LMU and No. 5 seed Pacific. With a 1-2 record, the Broncos finished fourth at the first-ever GCC Championship.

On Saturday vs. LMU, two goals by Claire Eadington and Elle Surber put the Broncos up 2-1 at the end the first period. The Lions went on a three-goal run to start the second before Julia Peters scored a goal to make it 4-3 Lions. Surber threw in her second of the game, but the Lions held onto their 5-4 lead going into halftime.
In the third quarter, Surber tied the game, 5-5, and with goals by Kaitlin Murphy and Eadington, the Broncos regained the lead, 7-6. The Lions battled hard in the final quarter to take the lead back. Murphy put in her second goal and Eadington had one final goal in the last 30 seconds, but it was not enough. The Lions finished the game with a 10-9 win to advance to the championship game.   They went on to win the title with 10-9 triple overtime victory over San Diego State.
On Sunday, the Broncos played in the third place match against Pacific. The Tigers kept the Broncos scoreless in the first quarter and hopped out to a 4-0 lead. Surber was able to break the silence for the Broncos, but the Tigers kept their momentum going. Peters scored, but the Tigers maintained a 5-2 lead going into half.
Erin Sheridan and Ashley Lethrich each had a goal, but Pacific claimed third place with the 11-4 win.
Eadington was the lone Bronco named to the seven-player GCC All-Tournament team.
