Women’s Water Polo Faces Cal St. East Bay Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Fresh off of an impressive 16-9 victory in the season opener over Cal St. Monterey Bay, the Santa Clara women's water polo team travels to Cal St. East Bay this weekend. The Broncos had five players score at least two goals against the Otters, led by freshman Hannah Buck's four.

"It is always good to get a win to start the season and build some confidence," Head Coach Keith Wilbur commented on the season opener. "I thought the team executed well on the offensive end, and lot of different players scored in a lot of different ways.  We had some lapses on defense though, and it is important that we have a more consistent effort on the defensive end moving forward."

Cal St. East Bay and SCU met twice last season, with the Broncos taking both games (12-7, 11-5).

"CS East Bay is a solid team, and they are off to a good start with a couple of quality wins," Coach Wilbur said. "The dimensions of their pool are much smaller than a regulation course, so it is very important that we have good spacing and ball control.  Counter attacks will also be limited, so execution in the half court, both offensively and defensively, will be very important."

Next, the Broncos will travel to San Diego to participate in the UC San Diego Triton Classic Feb. 13-14.
