Women’s Water Polo Downs Cal State East Bay, 14-10

HAYWARD, Calif. - Elizabeth Anderson and Cathy Cantoni scored four goals apiece to lead the Santa Clara women's water polo team to a 14-10 victory against Cal State East Bay Saturday afternoon.

Annie Eldredge added three goals and Sydni Estrella went the distance in net, making nine saves for the Broncos (2-0).

Santa Clara started fast with six first-period goals and had an efficient 63.6 shooting percentage (14 of 22).

Leading 8-5 late in the second period, the Broncos took control of the game with four straight goals during an 8-minute stretch.

Cantoni had an even-strength goal with less than 1 minute left in the first half before adding another tally off an Anderson assist at 2:36 of the third period. Anderson added her second power-play goal of the game less than 2 minutes later to cap the scoring spurt.

The Pioneers (2-1) scored the next three during the final 3 minutes of the third quarter, but Anderson and Surber struck for goals on the man advantage midway through the fourth quarter.

Casey Rushforth led the Pioneers offense with four goals and Tori Dettloff added three.

The Broncos will play in their first tournament of 2016 next weekend, traveling to San Diego for the Triton Invitational.
