Women’s Water Polo Falls Twice on Final Day of Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO – The Santa Clara women's water polo team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Triton Invitational.

Despite a late rally, the Broncos (2-4) were upended 7-4 by No. 25 Cal State East Bay in Sunday morning action.

Cathy Canton and Annie Eldredge each scored fourth-quarter goals. Elle Suber's second-quarter tally closed the gap to 3-2, but the Pioneers netted the next four goals.

In the final game in the two-day, 16-team tournament at UC San Diego's Canyonview Aquatic Center, Santa Clara was edged by Sonoma State, 5-3, with Hannah Buck leading the way with a pair of goals.

Sonoma State's Lyndsie Williams snapped a 2-all tie midway through the third period with a goal.

Surber closed the gap to 4-3 with a goal with 6:33 left in the game, but Carleigh Robinson added an insurance tally just more than 1 minute later.

The Broncos are back in action Friday when they play at San Jose State. The game starts at 3 p.m.
