Women’s Water Polo Splits Two Saturday Home Games

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Hannah Buck scored a game-high four goals to help Santa Clara women's water polo knock off the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, 10-5, Saturday morning in the first of three games at Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Broncos weren't able to keep that momentum going in the final game as the 13th-ranked UC Davis Aggies scored three goals in the fourth quarter to pull away for an 11-7 victory in the afternoon.

Buck scored three goals in a two-minute span to help the Broncos (4-9) erase an early 3-0 deficit against the Otters (4-6). Her final goal in that stretch came with 1:29 left in the opening quarter and gave Santa Clara a 5-3 lead.

Buck, Mara Dominguez and Madison Gomes had goals in the third period as the Broncos built an 8-3 lead.

Tatiana Veloso tallied a team-high three goals for Cal State Monterey (4-5) which was held scoreless for nearly two periods beginning midway through the opening quarter.

In the day's finale, Keri Clifford scored twice in the third period, enabling the Broncos to cut a four-goal deficit to 7-6.

But Hannah Harvey scored with 16 seconds left in the third quarter and Kathleen Schafle tallied a goal 23 seconds into fourth to help the Aggies build a three-goal lead.

McKenna Hauss and Annie Kutt scored two goals apiece for the Aggies who won their fifth-straight game.

Francesca Puccinelli went the distance in net Santa Clara in both games, posting 10 saves against Cal State Montery Bay and 11 vs. UC Davis.

In Saturday's second game, UC Davis rolled past Cal State Monterey, 16-2.

The Broncos return to action Saturday in the Wolverine Invite in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
