ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Santa Clara women's water polo lost a pair of close games on Saturday, the opening day of the eight-team Wolverine Invitational.

Gigi Rojahn scored a game-high four goals, including the final three, to help push Bucknell past the Broncos, 6-5, in morning action.

Santa Clara (4-11) rallied in the afternoon session against 18th-ranked Hartwick before falling 12-10.

Annie Eldredge posted a team-high two goals while Hannah Buck and Maggie Ireland each scored in the third quarter as the Broncos built a 5-3 lead on Bucknell (7-6). But Rojahn, a freshman, scored an exclusion goal with 14 seconds left in the period to knot the score at 5-all.

The Bison then took advantage of a Santa Clara exclusion with 5:08 left in the game as Rojahn scored the game-winner just two seconds after the ejection.

In the second game, the Broncos trailed 11-4 early in the fourth period before striking for four straight goals.

Buck started the rally by scoring with 4:40 on the clock and Cathy Cantoni added a pair of markers in less than one minute. However, after Eldredge cut the deficit to three, Lena Kotanchyan, who scored a game-high four times, pushed the lead to 12-8 on her final tally with less than two minutes remaining.

Buck, Eldredge, Cantoni and Mara Dominguez each scored twice against Hartwick (8-3).

The Broncos close play in the tournament Sunday, facing No. 5 Arizona State at 8:30 a.m. Pacific and host and seventh-ranked Michigan at 1:10 p.m.
